violin lessonsAbigail Todd is a dynamic and encouraging music teacher with over 25 years teaching experience and a proven track record with a variety of students.

Her pupils range from pre school children through to pensioners and she has worked with gifted students, those with special educational needs and non-English speaking students. Her principal instrument is the violin, but she also offers tuition in viola, cello, guitar, keyboard and recorder.

Abigail specialises in teaching individuals, but also offers group tuition for beginners.

She is committed to tailoring her tuition to the needs of each pupil as well as building an excellent rapport with both children and adults. She has good communication skills and an innovative approach to learning. Her philosophy has always been to accentuate the positive and gently eliminate the negative, making her lessons inspiring and encouraging.

As a seasoned performer she is able to deliver lessons covering a wide variety of musical styles.

Throughout her career she has prepared many students for ABRSM examinations (grade 1-8) achieving a high percentage of distinctions and merits.
She has also prepared students for GCSE, AS and A level practical examinations.

Her innovative teaching projects have included a student traditional music group which explores music from across the globe. This group learns everything by ear, thus encouraging a high degree of improvisation and general musical development.

She regularly uses and teaches the electric violin playing music ranging from classical to rock, highlighting the versatility of the violin in the modern world and inspiring children to persevere with the violin.

She writes and arranges music to appeal to children, teenagers and adults.

Abigail gained her ARCM teaching diploma in 1984 under Bridgid Kirkland- Wilson and then went on to study under Itzhack Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music, with whom she learned the Russian School teaching methods.

She now lives in Devon and has her own recording studio and teaches privately and in schools throughout Devon and Somerset. Contact Abigail
